Dominica, West Indies

May 24-28

We will AdvenTour to Domicica West Indies May 24-28.  This will be an optional and convenient "add on" for those joining us on the Guadeloupe Sailing AdvenTour and a stand alone dive trip for those that have chosen not to join us in Guadeloupe.

Dominica is an independent Common Wealth in the West Indies located between the French West Indies islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe.  It has consistently been rated in the top 5 dive destinations in the world and Scuba Magazine's top dive destination of 2008.

Dominica is known as the "Nature Island" with LOTS of water falls, flora and fauna, and an Cousteau Under Water Park.  The land scape is volcanic and touted as one of the Caribbean's most beautiful islands.

We are Planning to stay and dive with Ft. Young Hotel (unless another property offers a last minute deal we cannot refuse).

Ft. Young Hotel has offered us a very good deal and a great deal of flexability.

Those planning on diving Dominica prior to heading to Guadeloupe for the Dive/Sail AdvenTour, you may want to dive in the morning and take the afternoon ferry to Guadeloupe.  They may wish a slightly shorter trip.  THIS IS DOABLE.

For those that are coming to dive Dominica ONLY, you will need to fly out the last day so obviously you cannot dive and fly the same day.

We can customize the trip ANYWAY you want it......here are a few examples that include a STANDARD Room, Two Dives/Day, and taxes/fees.  These rates are LOWER than we originally projected.  If you wish to upgrade to Oceanview add $12/night/person or for a Delux Oceanview add $42/person.

Two Nights  $ 108.00
Two Days  $ 184.00
 $ 292.00

Three Nights  $ 162.00
Two Days  $ 184.00

Three Days  $ 276.00
 $ 438.00

Four Nights  $ 216.00

If you are interested in joining us for a couple days of diving in May, I need to know as soon as possible.

PLEASE contact us with your interest level.

ANDROS ISLAND, BAHAMAS

12-17 August, 2007

We will AdvenTour to Andros Island, Bahamas 12-17 August.  If you are looking for pristine diving in a local Bahamian atmosphere, join us on the Andros Island AdvenTour.

WHERE and WHAT IS ANDROS ISLAND - Andos Island is the largest, yet least populated of the Bahamas Islands.  It is only about 120 miles from the south Florida Coast. Miami/Ft. Lauderdale coast or a 20 miles from Nassau.

The "Tongue of the Ocean", the 6,000 feet deep trench that separates Nassau from Andros Island, is the home of the US Navy's Atlantic Underwater Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC).  This is where the Subs train and test their systems and where Navy P3 crews practice tracking and attacking them.

Andros has the worlds third (second in some opinions) largest barrier reef.  Obviously the largest is the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.

There has only been one dive resort operating on Andros for the past 20 years.  They only have about 25 divers/week.  That means less than 1200 divers/year have seen the world's third (or second) largest barrier reef.

The diving offers blue holes, reefs, walls, sea life, and much more.  If the thought of diving a very pristine reef interests you, this is the AdvenTour for you.

CORAL CAVERNS RESORT - Coral Caverns Resort is a NEW dive resort on Andros.  We have wanted to revisit Andros for many years, but the only other resort (the one that has been there for 20+ years) was too pricey for an AdvenTour. The owners of the NEW resort (Coral Caverns Resort) are enthusiastic and willing to work with groups.

We currently have 10 rooms blocked at the Coral Caverns Resort.  We anticipate 15-20 people joining us on this AdvenTour.  The resort has 19 "cottage" style rooms that are NICE, but NOT FANCY.  Each room has a small balcony and view of the ocean.

All meals and nonalcoholic drinks are included in the package prices.  The resort has a freshwater pool for after diving "chilling", a cool local type bar, and a deck specifically for GROUPS (Anyone ever been to one of AdvenTours World Famous Happy Hours?)

The small Bahamian village of Cargill Creek is near by (that means a store) for those that would like to explore.  This is NOT a tourist trap...this is as Bahamian as you can get.

GETTING to ANDROS ISLAND  -  American Airlines (AA) serves Nassau (NAS) nonstop from DFW two days/week and American Eagle (AE) offers RJ service the rest of the week.  We intend to travel on one of the days that has JET service from DFW to NAS.  Unfortunately if you want to return nonstop from NAS to DFW on the dates we have chosen, it will be on an RJ.

AA and AE also serve NAS from MIA (5/day) and FLL (3/day).

From Nassau we will purchase tickets on Western Air for $120 R/T.

For anyone owning a private plane, this is an easy flight from any of the south Florida airports.

RATES - We have not finalized the package prices YET, but you can expect to pay ABOUT $200/day/person (double occupancy).  These rates include your diving, meals, transfers to/from the airport, and nonalcoholic drinks.

For those trying to justify the price.....the dives are $80/day, so that means you are only paying $120 day for the room, meals, and drinks.  This makes the trip VERY comparable to any other AdvenTour.

COZUMEL HURRICANE WILMA RELIEF EFFORT

Every AdvenTour leads to the formation of new and the strengthening of old friendships.  These friendships are between AdvenTourers, other divers/vacationers, and with the staff at the Hotels and Dive Operators.

Without a doubt, our closeness to our friends in Cozumel is the strongest.  I have known the staff from Caribbean Divers for almost 20 years.  It is very rare that any dive shop will retain the same staff for that period of time.  It is not an accident that Caribbean Divers has.

Cesar and Rubin are not just the two best "dive masters" I have ever been around, they are our friends.  They and their wives (and now children) regularly join us for Happy Hour not to suck up for a tip, but as friends.  Our Captains Choby and Huacho safely transport us to and from the dive sites, help us in and out of the water, attend to our equipment, and serve our lunch.  Miguel and Javier are behind the scene in the office, getting our lunches and  tanks, and handling the endless schedule changes that we dump on them.

Well, our FRIENDS need some help.  Unless you live in a cave, you know the eye of Hurricane Wilma (not to be confused with Wilma, Cesar's wife) passed directly over the Island of Cozumel and sat there for several days.  The Island got hit with wind from the East, North, and West and the water rose in Cozumel like they have never had in the past.

Caribbean Divers' two boats (Meggie and Esfuerza) were damaged.  Esfuerza survived with minimal damage, but Meggie sank.

This is Meggie on the bottom of the harbor.

Meggie has been removed from the water and has a much of the dive platform torn off but is being repaired.

AA has canceled flights until "further notice", Continental will resume three flights per week in a couple of weeks, and the Charter Flights will re-start in January or February.

The lack of customers (hence income) for the next several months is an overwhelming thought for our friends.

Meggie after being raised form the bottom of the Harbor

The supermarkets are open, food and water available, and the gas stations have fuel.  The problem is without tourists they don't have income to buy the essentials.

I asked Cesar what could be done to help and he has a solution.  For each $50 donated/loaned Cesar will give you a two tank dive on your next dive trip.  In addition to helping a friend, this is one heck of a deal.  In essence, you are pre-paying for diving at a substantial savings to YOU while helping our friends.

AdvenTours normally schedules two trips each year to Cozumel (Feb and Sept).  In 2006, we will schedule at least three Cozumel trips and I will help with anyone else that is interested in going to Cozumel any other time.

Cesar and our friends at Caribbean Divers are not asking for handouts but could use the income that any prepaid diving would provide.  The bank charges them $20/check or wire transfer service fee so they have asked NOT to send check directly to them.

Instead Cesar has requested that we get any money raised to his friends Max and Laura Crawford in Florida.  They will fly their private plane to Cozumel and take Cesar the funds in a week or so.

So the bottom line.....If you are interested in helping our FRIENDS in Cozumel this is your chance.

1.  Divers or Non-Divers - Make a donation (any amount)

2.  Non-Divers - Make a Loan - For each $50 you loan I will personally repay you as we sell dive trips to Cozumel over the next year.  The repamyment will depend on how many Cozumel trips we sell so please be patient with me.

3.  Divers - Prepay for as many TWO TANK Dives as you wish for $50 each.

PLEASE SEND ALL FUNDS TO:

AdvenTours
7450 Lost Creek
Flower Mound, TX 75022

PLEASE TELL ME EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT
(donation, loan, or prepay your next dive trip).

WILMA RELIEF UPDATE -  11/20/05

We would like to thank those that have donated to help our friends at Caribbean Divers.  We will update this portion of our website as appropriate.

FROM MAX....
"The response has been good with some divers being very generous we have collected over $8000! I have saved all the envelopes and notes that accompanied your checks and will give them to Cesar."

FROM AdvenTours.....
AdvenTours has also collected a significant amount of money with many of our friends being very generous.  This week I forwarded Max and Lora over $8000 (this is in addition to the $8000 that Max referred to above) and have since have received almost another $1000 that will be forwarded to Max and Lora next week.

For everyone that contributed via AdvenTours, you will get a "certificate" for dives depending on the amount of money you contributed.  Some checks were noted as donations so certificates will not be issued for those unless you let me know otherwise.

BOTTOM LINE
Between those on the Cesar and Max's list and the AdvenTours' list our friends at Caribbean Divers will be helped get through the low/no tourist period.  Remember it will be several months before tourism really returns.

Max had intended fly a private plane to Cozumel and deliver the funds to Cesar this past Thursday, but the Tropical Storm GAMMA prevented him from leaving.  He NOW plans to go the day after Thanksgiving.

COZUMEL REBUILDING PROGRESS
To view lots of pictures that will give you a good feel for the damage AND the recovery click here (COZUMEL PICS)  For those Cozumel "regulars", you will see some VERY familiar sites.....The Aqua Safari Pier (where Meggie and Esfuerza pick us up) is GONE.....Sr. Frogs, Carlos-n-Charlies, Town Square, La Chooza, La Mission, and many of the other restaurants that we frequent were damaged but many have reopened.

The first Cruise ship came to Cozumel this week and will help SOME of the shop owners and restaurants, but the dive operators are still needing clients.

If you are interested in helping our friends, please refer to the above Cozumel Relief Options.

FLORIDA LOBSTER HUNT

Each year AdvenTours sponsors at least one but usually two Florida Lobster Hunt in the Ft. Lauderdale area.  One of these Lobster Hunts is during "Mini Season" which is the beginning of the season and is open for "sport divers" only.  This allows the public the opportunity to catch a few lobsters before the commercial operators get involved.

We stay in the homes of our "friends" and dive off of their boats.  This is a real "perk" and is not open to the public.  We have very limited space and those that have attended a "Lobster Hunt" in the past always have priority.  If you are an experienced diver, have AdvenToured with us in the past, and are interested in joining us for a Lobster Hunt contact AdvenTours.
