PADI Open Water Diver Course
Now is the time
to dive into the PADI Open Water Diver course, the most popular dive program
in the world! This is your ticket to a lifetime of intense adventure with PADI,
the dive company that sets the standards in the global diving community.
Why PADI Open Water?
As a certified PADI Open Water Diver, the most widely recognized and respected
rating in the world, you have the freedom to dive with a buddy independent of
a professional. PADI enforces a high degree of standardization with it's
instructors. It is similar to ordering a Big Mac in Texas or London in
that regardless of the location, it will always taste like a Big Mac.
| |
PADI Scuba Diver is a slightly less restrictive course specifically
designed for those with less time and who only plan to dive one or twice
each year WITH a PADI Instructor or Dive Master.
|
Who can enroll in class?
Virtually anyone who is in good health, reasonably fit, and comfortable in the
water can earn a PADI Open Water Diver certification. If you are between 10
and 14 or have a child between these ages, there is a PADI Junior Open Water
Diver program available.
| |
A PADI Jr Open Water Diver between the ages of 10 and 12 years may only
dive with a PADI Professional, a certified parent or certified guardian to a
maximum depth of 12 meters/40 feet.
| |
Note - Junior Open Water Divers MUST complete all of the same
requirements as adults. Seldom do Junior students have troubles
with the water skills, however due to the inherent short attention spans
of most youth special precautions need to be adhered to in order ensure
their success. PLEASE contact us prior to enrolling them in any
class.
|
|
What will I Learn?
Throughout the course, you’ll learn fundamentals of scuba diving, including
dive equipment and techniques.
How is the course set up?
You earn this rating by completing Knowledge Development, Confined Water
(Pool) Training, and Open Water Training.:
| |
Knowledge Developement - The knowledge development combines home study
and classroom sessions, There are 5 Knowledge Development "Modules"
| |
Home Study - You must complete the 5 Home Study "Modules" on your home
computer or by using a combination of video tapes and the PADI Open Water
Diver Manual. If you choose the the computer based method
(preferred), AdvenTours will loan you a set of PADI CDs unless you prefer
to purchase them.
|
| |
Classroom Instruction - There are also 5 classroom sessions that
reinforce the knowledge aquired in the Home Study course. This
instruction is designed to ensure you have an adequate understanding of
the materials needed to safely complete the training and to help ensure
you will have a safe Scuba career.
| |
AdvenTours normally conducts the Classroom Instruction
in Flower Mound, TX.
|
|
|
| |
Pool Training - The 5 "Modules" of Pool instruction are performance
based and progressive in nature. AdvenTours uses a
variety of pool locations depending on availablity and class requirements.
|
| |
Open Water Training - You must also complete a minimum of 4 Open Water
Dives (lake/ocean) over a minimum of two days. AdvenTours highly recommends completing your training in the clear blue water of the
ocean. AdvenTours offers a 8 - 10 scuba trips each year. Open
Water Training can be completed on almost all of these trips.
|
How long will it take?
PADI programs are performance based. You proceed as you demonstrate mastery of
the course skills. This allows you to work at a pace that is comfortable for
you. The Home Study course "usually" takes about 5-7 hours, the
Classroom Instruction "usually" takes about 5-7 hours, and the Pool Training
also takes about 5-7 hours.
What are the class schedules?
AdvenTours customizes each class schedule to accamodate the
personal restrictions of the students and pool availability. We do not
have set class schedules.
Frequently we will offer a "Camp" type of schedule when the students wish
to commit two and one half to three days. These days are long (5-8
hours), but the Classroom and Pool Training can usually be completed in the
minimum amount of time with the fewest number of trips to class. This
also works very well for those traveling from out of town to attend training.
